Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden announced his long awaited pick to join him on the ticket to try and beat President Donald Trump this November. Biden announced he has chosen California senator Kamala Harris as his running mate. Harris was a one time opponent of Biden who ran for president herself at the end of 2019. The decision is historic in that it is the first time a major political party in the United States has had a woman of color on the ticket as vice president. Biden committed to picking a female running mate during the final debate of the Democratic primary in early 2020.
