The State Department of Revenue has released numbers from the Sturgis Motorcycle rally showing how much money in taxes was collected in the 10 day period. According to the Department, South Dakota took in more than $1.3 million, a six percent increase compared to 2019. The report also shows more than half of the taxes collected were state sales taxes. Approximately 250,000 people were expected to attend the rally despite COVID-19, and visitors actually outperformed those numbers. An estimated 250 infections of COVID-19 in 12 states have been linked to Sturgis.
