Smithfield Foods in Sioux Falls has been fined by OSHA, the federal oversight workers safety board for failing to protect its employees from the COVID-19 pandemic. The fine was for $13,494. 1,294 Smithfield employees contracted COVID-19 in the spring of 2020 and four employees died as a result of contracting the virus.
