South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg has released a statement giving his account of the accident he was involved in that left one person dead.
According to Ravnsborg, he had not been drinking at the Spink County Lincoln Day Dinner in Redfield and was returning home when he struck something with his vehicle outside Highmore. He believed he hit something and contacted Hyde County Sheriff Mike Volek.
The two searched the ditch but found no evidence of the something hit. Ravnsborg left the scene with a car provided by Sheriff Volek and returned to the scene the following morning, discovering the body of the victim 55-year-old Joseph Boever. Ravnsborg then contacted the sheriff about the body.
The family of the victim is seeking answers about the investigation. Boever's cousin, former state lawmaker Victor Nemec who identified the body to authorities, says the state is being "tight-lipped" about the investigation.
