(KOTA - Rapid City, SD) The Black Hills have started to feel the burn from the Western Wildfires, as a blanket of smoke has dropped a haze over Rapid City.

Lt. Jim Bussell said the smoke in the air is directly connected to the fires on the west coast, and that it won’t go away any time soon.

Firefighters like Lt. Tim Weaver have highlighted fire mitigation and defense to residents living in at-risk areas.

The loss of life and cost of property damaged by the western wildfires continues to rise day over day, particularly in hard hit Oregon and California.
