(KWAT - Watertown, SD) A Watertown man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of Second Degree Murder. Forty year-old Jeremiah Peacemaker is accused of killing 28 year-old Kendra Owen at her Watertown residence.
Owen’s body was found the evening of September 2 nd . Police said it appeared she had been dead for several days. Peacemaker was arrested the following morning. At a press briefing announcing Peacemaker’s arrest, Watertown Police Detective Sergeant Chad Stahl said there were numerous signs of trauma on Owen’s body. An autopsy was conducted, but a cause of death has not been announced.
Defense attorney Scott Bratland says Peacemaker entered his not guilty plea during a court hearing Wednesday. His jury trial is scheduled to begin on January 28, 2021.
He remains in jail on $1 million cash-only bond. Police have not described in detail the relationship between the suspect and victim, only saying that they appeared to be, “recent acquaintances.”
