The Yankton City council Wednesday night voted 7-2 to mandate masks within the city. The ordinance will go into effect Friday and remain in effect until March 1st 2021. The mandate means people most wear a mask when six feet of social distancing is not possible. There is no legal enforcement of the mandate, but the ordinance also states businesses must try to enforce the mandate within reason. Yankton is the latest city in South Dakota, along with Mitchell, Huron, Sioux Falls and others to mandate mask usage.
