Legendary country music singer and an African American pioneer in the genre, Charley Pride passed away Saturday Dec. 12th due to complications with COVID-19. He was 86 years old. Pride was best known during his top recording years between 1966 and 1987. He had 52 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot Country songs chart, 30 of which made it to number one. He was also named entertainer of the year by the Country Music Association in 1971. Pride did attend the Country Music Awards in person a month ago leading some to speculate if he contracted the virus there.
