One of the first things President-elect Biden may do once taking office will be to cancel a permit for the Keystone XL Pipeline. This long controversial pipeline has been in the works since 2008 and would bring oil from the tar sands of Alberta Canada down to the cost of Texas. Preliminary construction of the pipeline began in South Dakota last fall, along with construction in Montana and Nebraska. Native American groups along with environmental activists have long been opponents of the pipeline. The Lakota People’s Law Project released a statement praising Biden’s decision, though the decision itself has not been finalized.
