South Dakota native Tom Brokaw announced he is retiring from NBC after 55 years with the network. Brokaw is 80 years old and was the lead anchor for NBC nightly news from 1982 to 2004. He has been the network’s senior correspondent in recent years, contributing to NBC and MSNBC programs while also writing pieces for the network’s website. Brokaw was born in Webster and is the great grandson of Richard P. Brokaw, the man who founded the town of Bristol. He graduated from Yankton High School before ultimately earning a political science degree from the University of South Dakota.
