Aberdeen Police arrest man on burglary and rape charges

The Aberdeen Police Department has reportedly arrested a man on a burglary and sexual assault that occurred on June 18th.


According to a release from the Aberdeen Police Department, the suspect was first spotted on June 20th driving around Aberdeen around 1:00 a.m. The suspect led officers on a chase reaching 80 miles an hour mostly through the southern part of Aberdeen.


The suspect was able to elude police as the chase reached the Spink County line. On June 21st, the suspect was tracked down to a residents in the 200 block of 6th Avenue NE. At approximately 11:00 p.m. The department's special response team and crisis negotiation team was brought in as it was believed the suspect was armed and refused to cooperate with police.


At approximately 1:30 a.m. The suspect surrendered peacefully. The name of the individual has not been release but he faces charges including first degree burglary, third degree rape, commission of a felon while armed, felon possession of a firearm, parole violation, and several traffic offenses.
