Northern State University Athletics and Dacotah Bank announced today the Inaugural Dacotah Bank Thanksgiving Classic to be played November 23 and 24 at Wachs Arena. The four-team classic will feature the Northern State University Wolves, University of Sioux Falls Cougars, Truman State University Bulldogs, and Chadron State College Eagles.

“The tradition of college basketball over the Thanksgiving holiday season is not only good for student athletes and fans, but it’s a shot in the arm for the local economy,” noted Kip J. Hansen, market president for Dacotah Bank.

Games are slated for 5 and 7 p.m. on Friday, November 23, and 4 and 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 24. Fans can purchase session passes at the gate, while all Wolves Club season ticket holders will receive a session pass in their yearly booklet.

“Traditions make Thanksgiving one of the more popular times to gather at home,” added David Sandvig, senior vice president and chief relationship officer. “Hopefully a fun and entertaining series of games like this becomes a new tradition to gather at home court.”

The opening game of the day will feature Sioux Falls versus Chadron State. The Wolves will open the Dacotah Bank Classic at 7 p.m. on the 23, facing off against Truman State. Day two opens with Truman State versus Sioux Falls at 4 p.m., followed by the Wolves versus Chadron State.

“The support we get from Aberdeen and the surrounding communities is unmatched in South Dakota. Dacotah Bank has been a leader in the community with their support to Northern State University,” explained Paul Sather, head men’s basketball coach. “They love basketball around here, and the Thanksgiving holiday is a perfect time to host this event.  We have a strong field of teams coming that will provide some terrific basketball to come out and watch.”
