The ownership group of the newest NHL team, which is based in Seattle, has released the team nickname, logo and colors. The 32nd NHL team, which will begin play 2020-21 is the "Seattle Kraken" and they will play in the Pacific Division.
Seattle was awarded a franchise back in December of 2018 and will play out of Climate Pledge Arena which is undergoing a massive redevelopment.
According to the team's website the officials colors include Deep Sea Blue, Ice Blue, Boundless Blue, Shadow Blue and Red Alert. The Kraken is a creature of myth from Scandanavian folk lore and is often depicted as a giant sea monster with octopus like features.
The city of Seattle has not had professional hockey since the Totems of the Western Hockey League left in 1975. Even before that however, Seattle once had the Metropolitans in 1915 which played in teh Pacific Coast Hockey Association and in 1917 were the first American team to win a Stanley Cup.
