Northern State University head coach Saul Phillips announced today the additions of Carter Lancaster (Darlington, Wis.) and Cael McGee (Stoughton, Wis.). The Wisconsin natives will join Andrew Bergan (Aberdeen, S.D.), Trey Longstreet (Waverly, Minn.), Sam Masten (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Jacksen Moni (Fargo, N.D.), and Kallieb Walton-Blanden (Rapid City, S.D.) in the fall.

Carter Lancaster | Darlington, Wis. | Darlington HS | Guard/Forward

Carter Lancaster is a 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard/forward out of Darlington High School. He was a 4-year starter and senior team captain for the Redbirds under the direction of head coach Tom Uppena. Lancaster averaged double figures in each of his four seasons, finishing his career averaging 19.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game as a senior. He was a 4-time all-conference selection, 2-time first team all-state pick, the 2019-20 SWAL Conference MVP, and a 2021 WBCA All-Star. He is the son of Denise and the late Aaron Lancaster.

Phillips on Lancaster:

“The biggest compliment I can give to Carter is he plays exactly like his father used to when he was my teammate in college. He is tough, smart, talented and is as team first as any player you’ll ever see. He is an athletic player who could be plugged into the lineup at any position from point guard to power forward. Although he is a high-level scorer, his greatest attribute is he makes everyone around him better. He is as tough as they come physically and mentally.”

Cael McGee | Stoughton, Wis. | Stoughton HS | Guard

Cael McGee is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound guard out of Stoughton High School. He was a 3-year starter and senior team captain for the Vikings under the direction of head coach Nolan Weber. McGee averaged 20.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.9 steals, and 2.0 assists per game. He was a 2-time all-area and all-state selection, 2020 all-conference pick, and a WBCA All-Star. Stoughton won the conference championship in 2020 and was the 2018 and 2020 region champions as well. He is the son of Jason and Heather McGee.

Phillips on McGee:

“Cael is a big, strong combo that can turn the corner and dunk on you in an instant. He is a rare combination of physical and explosive. His shooting range is good and he is an extremely active defender. He makes good decisions on the floor and is another win-first guy. Cael’s potential is extremely intriguing and we can’t wait to help him reach his sizable potential.”
