Man who swung a machete at people in Aberdeen last week has bond set

Bond was set at $20,000 cash for 40-year-old Joe Luis Munoz who made his initial court appearance Friday. Munoz is accused of swinging a machete at people inside a local grocery store. He faces three counts felony aggravated assault as well as a host of misdemeanor charges including obstructing law enforcement, resisting arrest and having an open container of alcohol. Munoz was arrested Thursday after officers were called to the 500 block of South State Street. His alleged actions led to the Aberdeen YMCA, Avera Medical Group and Aberdeen Roncalli Elementary all being briefly placed on lockdown status due to the proximity. Police needed to use a non-lethal beanbag shot to subdue Munoz in this case.
