Minnesota Wild place Alexander Khovanov on unconditional waivers

The Minnesota Wild has announced the team has placed forward Alexander Khovanov on unconditional waivers.

Unconditional Waivers in the NHL is the process where a player is released from his contract either by way of a buyout or contract termination.

Khovanov is a Russian national selected by the Wild in the third round #86 overall in the 2018 NHL draft. He had lots of promise, lighting up the offense for the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and playing for Russia in the World Juniors, but struggled with the Wild’s AHL affiliate, scoring just one goal in 22 games for the Iowa Wild.

He was eventually demoted to the Wild’s ECHL affiliates the Iowa Heartlanders.
