A Mitchell man has been sentenced on charges including assaulting, resisting and impeding a federal office. 38-year-old Dustin Todd Long was convicted of the charges and will serve five years in federal prison followed by three years supervised released. Long was indicted by a federal grand jury I September of 2023 and pleaded guilty in August of 2024. The charges stem from Long pointing a handgun toward Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services after refusing to obey their commands. The incident took place in Eagle Butte. After being apprehended it was determined Long’s gun was unloaded.
