Willie Mays, one widely considered one of the best baseball players in the history of the game, has passed away at the age of 93. The San Francisco Giants made the announcement on its X account on behalf of the Mays family Tuesday. Mays got his start in baseball playing in the segregated Negro Leagues with the Birmingham Black Barons in 1948 and made the jump to Major League Baseball with the New York Giants in 1951 winning rookie of the year. He was the NL MVP in 1954 helping the Giants win their last World Series before moving to San Francisco. His over the shoulder catch in the 1954 world series is one of the most iconic plays in baseball history.
