Mount Vernon man accepts guilty plea in death of an infant in his care

A Mount Vernon man has entered a guilty plea regarding the death of a child in his case. According to court documents 35-year-old Shawn Delancey agreed to plead guilty to 2^nd degree manslaughter and child abuse charges to avoid a murder charge. The charges stem from an incident in March of 2023 when Delancy was babysitting 3-year-old Mahlon Pollard. The child became upset and after efforts to calm him Delancy admitted to police he got frustrated and shook the child violently. The child later became unresponsive. An autopsy would show Pollard passed away as a result of a traumatic brain injury.
