(KORN – Mitchell, SD) A 35 year old man from Mount Vernon has been charged in the death of a three-year old juvenile. According to court documents Shawn Bradley Delancey is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and abuse of or Cruelty to a Minor.
On March 14th, Delancey was apparently babysitting the three-year old juvenile male at Delancey’s residence in Mount Vernon.
Delancey stated the child was upset and acting out and he attempted to give the child a bath to calm him. The child continued acting out in the bathtub and Delancey admitted taking him out of the bathtub and being frustrated. Delancey also admitted grabbing the child by his upper chest and shaking him violently while yelling at him to calm down. The child became unresponsive a short time later and eventually died as a result of injuries received from Delancey.
Bond is set at $500,000 and that Delancey have no contact with the victim’s family and other conditions.
The South Dakota Attorney General’s Office is handling the investigation and prosecution.
