NFL hall of fame quarterback Brett Favre has announced he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The 54-year-old long time Green Bay Packers quarterback made the announcement at a congressional hearing regarding welfare reform. Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the central nervous system that results in tremors, slowness of movement, difficulty with balance and a whole host of other symptoms. While Favre did not say whether or not his football career caused the condition, medical research shows a link between multiple concussions and Parkinson’s disease among others. Favre has stated he likely had over 1,000 concussions during his 19 year NFL career.
