Northern men’s basketball signs two transfer students

Northern State University head coach Saul Phillips announced the additions of Kwat Abdelkarim (Lincoln, Neb.) and James Glenn (Altoona, Iowa) today. They will join the fall singing class of Marley Baah-Yeboah (Lakeville, Minn.), Marcus Burks (Lakeville, Minn.), and Jake Kuhl (Hartford, S.D.).

Kwat Abdelkarim – Guard, Lincoln, Neb. / North Star HS / DMACC
Kwat Abdelkarim is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard out of North Star High School and Des Moines Area Community College. As a prep, Abdelkarim was a 3-year starter and captain for the Gators, averaging double figures each year. He was a 2-time all-conference selection, as well as a Nebraska Super-State team member and all-city team honoree. Abdelkarim played at Skyline Prep in his final season, winning both the league overall and tournament championships. He spent one season at DMACC to open his collegiate career, averaging 10.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. In addition, he shot 50.0% from the floor, 41.0% from the 3-point line, and 77.0% from the foul line. The Bears finished top-10 in the country and Abdelkarim was named to the all-region second team. He is the son of Abiol Mayen and Ashwok Nok.

Phillips’ Thoughts: “Kwat is a versatile guard with good size and athleticism. He is also an outstanding shooter and can score in a lot of different ways. Kwat’s ability on both ends of the floor combined with leadership skills will provide an immediate boost to our roster. He already has a great relationship with James from their year as teammates at DMACC. He has a wealth of experience and comes from an excellent program that has been very successful.”

James Glenn – Guard, Altoona, Iowa / Southeast Polk HS / DMACC
James Glenn is a 6-foot-3, 175-pound guard out of Southeast Polk High School and Des Moines Area Community College. As a prep, Glenn was a 3-year starter and team captain for the Rams. He played two seasons with the DMACC Bears averaging 12.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game in 2023-24. Glenn shot 49.3% from the floor, 44.3% from the 3-point line, and 87.8% from the foul line last season. He earned ICCAC All-Conference second team honors as a sophomore, leading DMACC to third and fifth place finishes at the national tournament. He is the son of Richard and Jeanne Glenn.

Phillips’ Thoughts: “James was a key component to an outstanding team that competed at the national level during his time at DMACC. He is an incredibly efficient scorer and a brilliant shooter. James is a very good athlete and plays extremely hard. He was an early target of ours because of his combination of skill and athleticism. As a staff, we were all struck by the strong relationships he built with coaches and teammates. Both James and Kwat will have a large and immediate impact on Wolves basketball.”
