Northern State women’s basketball adds two prospects

Northern State University head coach Paula Krueger announced the addition of two student-athletes to national letters of intent today. Decontee Smith (Mapleton, N.D.) and Gracie Traphagen (Aberdeen, S.D.) will join the Wolves in the fall of 2023.

“We are excited to add Gracie and Decontee to our roster,” explained Krueger. “Gracie is a tremendous shooter that brings length and rebounding. Decontee is a great athlete with playmaker abilities. Both bring a toughness to our squad and we can’t wait to have them in Wolves Country!”

Decontee Smith – Guard, Mapleton, N.D. / Central Cass HS

Decontee Smith is a 5-foot-8, guard out of Central Cass High School. She is a 3-year starter for the Squirrels under the direction of head coach Jay Bachman. As a junior, Smith averaged 13.6 points per game. She was named to the All-Region team in 2021-22 and the Squirrels placed third at the North Dakota State Tournament. She is the daughter of Patrick and Martha Smith.

Gracie Traphagen – Guard / Forward, Aberdeen, S.D. / Groton Area

Gracie Traphagen is a 5-foot-10, guard/forward out of Groton Area. She is a 4-year starter and team captain for the Tigers under the direction of head coach Matt Locke. Traphagen averaged 13.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game in 2021-22. She is a 3-time all-conference honoree. She is the daughter of Trent and Heather Traphagen.
