One person killed in a house fire in Brookings county Tuesday

One person is dead following a house fire south in Brookings county Tuesday. According to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, the fire was located south of Brookings near 471^st avenue and 217^th street. Upon arrival fire crews found the residence engulfed in flame and smoke. Upon entering the home, fire crews found one occupant who was pronounced dead at the scene. The resident has since been identified as 94-year-old Lyle Monsees. Fire crews worked for hours and were able to save a large portion of the structure. The cause of the fire and the victim’s death are under investigation.
