One time Aberdeen resident Zachary Kovach announced on his Facebook page he has launched an exploratory committee to run for South Dakota’s lone seat in congress. Kovach is a Democrat who unsuccessfully ran for a seat in the state legislature in 2018 to represent District 7 or Brookings. In a press release about his decision he claims progressive policies have an advantage for South Dakota’s farm economy, and he would be a fresh perspective focusing on working people, small farms and the overall economy. Since this is an exploratory committee he has not filed paperwork with the Federal Election Committee yet. Should he run and be the Democratic nominee he would likely be running against incumbent Republican Dusty Johnson.
