One time gubernatorial candidate and president of Dakota Wesleyan University Jim Beddow has passed away. He was 81 years old. A Huron native, Beddow grew up in Woonsocket and attended the University of South Dakota before going on to the University of Oklahoma then enlisting in the US Army. He served as president of Dakota Wesleyan from 1981 to 1994. He ran for governor in 1994 as a Democrat but was defeated by Bill Jankelow who won his second non-consecutive term in office.
