The South Dakota pheasant hunting season will begin tomorrow across the state. The single day limit for one licensed hunter is three roosters. There is also a possession limit of 15 pheasants, three birds a day for five days. Shooting hens is illegal. Wearing blaze orange is also recommended but not required by law. According to South Dakota Game Fish and Parks, more than 1,067,423 birds were harvested during the 2021 season. The season runs through January 31st 2023. According to the South Dakota Department of Tourism, the pheasant hunting season is estimated to generate $223 million in retail economic impact annually and an additional $111 million in salaries annually.
