Pierre man loses life in drowing incident

(KCCR – Pierre, SD) A 69 year-old Pierre man died Friday night after falling in the water near Down’s Marina in Pierre. Pierre Police Captain Dusty Pelle says authorities responded to the 800 block of South Washington Avenue around nine-PM Friday night to help search for a male subject who had been retrieving something from is boat but did not return to his vehicle. The man was found in the water but unresponsive. Authorities including a Pierre police officer, Hughes County Sheriff’s deputy and E-M-T’s from American Medical Response performed C-P-R on the many until he was transported to Avera St. Mary’s hospital, located a short distance away; two blocks north of the marina. Pelle says police don’t know how the man ended up in the water, but says it appears the man drowned. Foul play is no suspected in the man’s death. The man’s name is not being released pending notification of family.
