(DRG News – Pierre, SD) A 35 year old man from Pierre charged after an incident in Pierre Friday night (Aug. 23, 2024, 8:40pm).
Information from the Pierre Police Department says Patrol was dispatched to the 800 block of E. Sioux for the report of a disorderly subject. As a Patrol Officer arrived, Torin Dewitt began walking away from the Officer. When the Officer requested Dewitt to stop, Dewitt began to run. The Officer got into his patrol vehicle and followed Dewitt. Dewitt ran into a dead end and the officer stopped and began to exit his patrol vehicle when Dewitt tried to run past the patrol vehicle pushing the driver’s door into the Officer. The Officer was able to grab ahold of Dewitt and they ended up on the ground while Dewitt continued to fight with the officer.
Once Dewitt was taken into custody, a knife was found near him. The investigation found that Dewitt had pulled a knife on the Officer, but lost control of the knife when the Officer grabbed a hold of him.
Dewitt was arrested and taken to the Hughes County Jail charged with obstructing an officer, disorderly conduct, and aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer.
