Federal government authorities has announced plans to spend $23 million in conservation and restoration efforts on the wetlands known as the “Prairie Pothole Region.” This area encompasses a large swath of the northern great plains, beginning in Iowa and expanding northwest into Minnesota, the Dakota’s parts of Montana and into the Canadian plains. This area of shallow wetlands is crucial to the survival of duck populations, other migratory birds, fish and other wildlife. The money is part of $120 million allocated in the Inflation Reduction Act to help fight climate change and restore ecosystems nationwide.
