Presentation College closing Aberdeen campus

Presentation College announced Tuesday it would be ceasing operations on its Aberdeen campus in the north part of town and no longer accepting students for the 2023-24 fall semester.

The announcement was made via a press release. This announcement comes days after an agreement was announced between St. Ambrose University in Davenport Iowa and PC to enhance its online nursing program. St. Ambrose will continue to offer PC’s signature online BNS program and be known as the Nano Nagle Online School of Nursing at St. Ambrose University.

“After careful evaluation of the sustainability of the College’s academic programs, and a thorough review of alternatives, the Board of Trustees and Presentation Sisters reluctantly decided to close the physical campus and implement Teach-Out programs as the most responsible way to steward students’ pathways to completing their degrees,” said Sister Mary Thomas, president of the Presentation Sisters Corporate Board. “We understand and share the heartbreak by our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and Aberdeen community, and we will work closely with them to succeed through this transition.”

“This extremely difficult decision was made after a careful evaluation of the sustainability of the College’s academic programs and a thorough review of alternatives. Ultimately, based on the College’s recent enrollment trends and financial health, and the bleak higher education enrollment forecast for the coming years, the Board of Trustees and the Presentation Sisters’ Corporate Board concluded that partnering with other colleges and universities to deliver Teach-Out programs is the most responsible way to steward our students’ pathways to completing their degrees.” PC president Dr. Paula Langteau said in a statement.

“For nearly 75-years Presentation College and the Presentation Sisters have been a beacon of pride for the city of Aberdeen, and the state of South Dakota.”

Presentation College was founded in 1951 and is renown for its nursing program.

According to coach’s at the college, athletics will cease operation as well. The men and women’s basketball season will be finished and the baseball and softball teams will move forward with their seasons, but following that there will be no more athletics at PC.
