Northwestern Energy, the company that provides natural-gas to approximately 49,800 customers across South Dakota has presented its case to the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission for a rate hike for natural gas. This is the first request Northwestern Energy has made in 13 years and it is up to the PUC to determine whether or not the proposed 9.1 percent increase will go through. The PUC heard the case last week and announced it would put a hold on the increase until late December so staff could review it further.
