Rule changes to know for this MLB baseball opening day

Today is Major League Baseball’s opening day across the league. All 30 teams will be in action today including the Minnesota Twins who will take on the Kansas City Roayls on the road. First pitch will be at 3:10 p.m. Pablo Lopez will start for Minnesota, Zach Greinke for Kansas City. Baseball may look a little different this year with the league implementing a number of new rules. Those include an end to the shift. This year, all four infielders are required to be on infield dirt or grass with two on each side of second base. This is in response to league wide batting averages in 2022 being .243, the lowest since 1968. Another new rule is the pitch clock. Pitchers have 15 seconds to throw pitch with the bases empty and 20 second with a runner on base. Pitchers are also allowed just two disengagements per plate appearance. That includes pick off attempts and stepping off the mound. Bases have also increased from 15 inches to 18 inches.
