Sanford receives $2 million five-year grant to study prenatal neuron development

Sanford Health has announced the hospital has received a $2 million grant from the National Institute of Health to research prenatal neuron development. The grant is for five years and the research will be lead by Dr. Louis Jan Pilaz. The goal of the research specifically will be to understand how a gene mutation causes a rare disease known as macrocephaly. Macrocephaly is a condition which causes an infant’s head circumference to grow 2 standards above normal deviations. This can lead to significant development delays and more.
