A Scotland South Dakota man accused of killing three people in a home within the city in November of 2021 changed his plea Wednesday from not guilty, to guilty but mentally ill. 42-year-old Francis Lange faces three counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. He injured two other people in the home as well, including a 5-year-old child. According to Attorney General Marty Jackley, a mentally ill plea is somewhat similar to a standard guilty plea, but Lange would receive more treatment and evaluation for mental illness.
