South Dakota Attorney General Mark Vargo has announced his office plans to hire a new agent to investigate the disappearance and murder of indigenous people. This position’s job will be to coordinate state resources with tribal law enforcement in an effort to do a better job in locating these missing and endangered people. Tribal members are disproportionately represented in the state’s missing persons database. The position was created by the legislature in 2021, but until now the position has gone unfilled.
