South Dakota Game Fish and Parks is warning residents migratory birds may bring with them avian flu upon their return. The flu is often transferred from wild birds to commercial flocks. The last confirmed case of avian flu in a South Dakota commercial flock was on January 23rd according to the United States Department of Agriculture. Farmers and ranchers are encouraged to try and keep wild bird populations away from commercial flocks in an attempt to help prevent contamination.
