SD Historical Society Press announces three fall releases.

The South Dakota Historical Society Press has released two works for its fall release with another one set to be released in the coming weeks. The stories focus on both the upper midwest and plains state’s political past along with a contemporary look at one of the Midwest’s most famous figures of the past century.

The first release is called “After Populism: The Agrarian Left on the Northern Plains, 1900-1960.” The book is a collection of essays compiled by historian William C. Pratt. The book follows several populist leaders on the great plains and the path they navigated during a time of great unrest for agriculture. The next release is called “Dancing With Welk: Music, Memory and Prairie Troubadours” by Christopher Vondracek. The story is part memoir, part look at history and more. Welk was a famous musician from Strasburg North Dakota who became famous in the 1950s and entertained audiences all over the world. Birzer explained the book further…
