Following the 2024 election South Dakota News Watch is already looking ahead to the 2026 election with new polling released with the help of the Chiesman Center for Democracy at the University of South Dakota. The poll spoke with 500 registered voters between Oct. 12th through the 16th. The polling specifically looked at the favorability of South Dakota’s Republican elected leadership. According to its findings Governor Kristi Noem has a 48 percent approval rating, 40 percent disapproval and 12 percent neutral. Senator John Thune has a 48 percent approval rating, 24 percent disapproval and 20 percent neutral. Representative Dusty Johnson has a 42 percent approval, 15 percent disapproval and 40 percent neutral. Senator Mike Rounds has a 36 percent approval, 25 percent disapproval and 34 percent neutral. Finally Attorney General Marty Jackley has a 28 percent approval, 13 percent disapproval and 36 percent neutral.
