South Dakota State guard Evan Beerntsen was selected Monday as the Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week.
A senior from De Pere, Wisconsin, Beerntsen graded at 88 percent with eight finish blocks in the top-ranked Jackrabbits’ 37-3 victory at South Dakota on Oct. 28. SDSU rolled up 473 yards of total offense in the contest and scored on its last seven possessions of the game to take over sole possession of first place in the league standings.
Beerntsen is the third member of the Jackrabbits’ starting offensive line to receive the weekly honor this season, joining Mason McCormick (Sept. 30) and Garret Greenfield (Oct. 7). Beerntsen also became the second SDSU player to be honored by the league this week as kicker/punter Hunter Dustman was named the MVFC Special Teams Player of the Week earlier on Monday.
SDSU will host No. 10/11 North Dakota State Saturday in a rematch of last season’s national championship contest, which was won by the Jackrabbits, 45-21. Kickoff for the annual Dakota Marker game is set for 2 p.m. at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.
