SkyWest forced to make emergency landing in Pierre Wednesday

(KCCR – Pierre, SD) SkyWest hasn’t landed a plane at Pierre Regional Airport for nearly a year and a half, but an emergency landing Wednesday night changed that…

Pierre Police Captain Bryan Walz says 48 passengers were on-board the CRJ-200 at the time of the engine failure…

The C-R-J-200 has two rear-mounted engines on either side of the fuselage. The Pierre Regional Airport firefighting team initiated their emergency operations plan and stood by as the plane landed. According to the flight tracking website FlightAware SkyWest Flight 4741 departed Fargo at 4:54 pm and landed at Pierre at 6:15pm Wednesday night. The Fargo flyers were stranded in Pierre around four hours when a replacement SkyWest plane arrived from Denver at 10:16 pm. Pierre’s regularly scheduled 8:05 pm arrival from Denver on Denver Air Connection arrived on time, but it’s unknown what impact the stranded passengers and luggage had on de-planing that aircraft.
