South Dakota Democrat party fields statewide candidates following party convention

The South Dakota Democrat Party met in Fort Pierre over the weekend and held their annual state convention. At the convention the party fielded candidates to run for statewide office. Tom Cool of Sioux Falls has been nominated to run for Secretary of State. He will take on Republican Monae Johnson who defeated incumbent Steve Barnett at the Republican convention last month. John Cunningham will run for state treasuer against incumbent Josh Haeder. Sioux Falls area Air Force veteran Stephanie Marty will run for state auditor against incumbent Rich Sattgast. Jeff Barth, retiring Minnehaha County Commissioner will run for a spot on the state Public Utilities Commission. And Wessington Springs resident Tim Azure will run for school and public lands commissioner. Democrats failed to find a candidate to run for Attorney General.
