South Dakota Game Fish and Parks Commission votes to extend some small game hunting species

The South Dakota Game Fish and Parks Commission Thursday approved extending the hunting season for several small game species. Those species with extended seasons include cottontail rabbits and tree squirrels. Those seasons currently end the last day of February and will now be extended to the last day of March. The commission also put the grouse, quail and patridge season on the same course with the pheasant season which runs through January 31st. Grouse, quail and patridge season used to end the first Sunday in January. The changes will need final approval from the Legislature’s Rules Review Committee which is scheduled to meet next Tuesday May 7th.
