According to a recent report by the website Rent.com, South Dakota leads the nation in recent rent increases. According to the numbers, in July , South Dakota’s median rent was $1,209, 22.61 percent more than July last year. Mississippi is the only other state with year rent increases in the 20 percentile. However, while rent on average is rising faster in South Dakota, the state’s median rent is well below that of the national average of $2,038. Its on par with neighboring states, with cheaper average rent prices lower than Minnesota and Nebraska, but higher than Iowa and North Dakota.
