South Dakota State volleyball head coach Dan Georgalas has announced the Jackrabbits’ schedule for the upcoming 2023 season. SDSU is set to play 28 matches during the regular season, including eight conference contests at Frost Arena.
“Without a doubt, this schedule will be the most challenging agenda that our staff has put together at SDSU,” said Georgalas. “We are playing our toughest competition, including two Power 5 opponents, while traveling to some really exciting destinations. We would normally love to host a non-conference tournament but the Frost Arena renovations will delay our home opener until Summit League play. Our loyal fans will have to wait to see the construction progress until we host Denver on September 28.”
The Jackrabbits will play an exhibition match against Augustana University on August 18. Due to Frost Arena construction, that contest will be played at Brookings High School.
SDSU begins the regular season with four consecutive non-conference tournaments on the road. The Jacks open the year at the Rumble in the Rockies tournament August 25-26, where the squad is set to take on Green Bay, Winthrop and host Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. SDSU then travels east to match up against on Kent State, Middle Tennessee State and Iowa at the FRYfest Invitational September 1-3 in Iowa City. State faces Alcorn State, Ole Miss and Tennessee Tech at the Ole Miss Invite September 8-9 in Oxford, Mississippi, then rounds out the non-conference slate against Montana, Boise State and Loyola Marymount at the Boise State Classic September 14-16.
The Jackrabbits start Summit League action on the road at St. Thomas (September 21) and Kansas City (September 23) before playing their home opener against Denver September 28 at Frost Arena. SDSU also hosts North Dakota State (October 5) and Omaha (October 7). The squad will make a three-game swing to Oral Roberts (October 12), Denver (October 14) and South Dakota (October 17), followed by home matches against St. Thomas (October 19) and Kansas City (October 21).
State plays at North Dakota October 26 and North Dakota State November 2. Three of the team’s final four regular-season matches will be played at Frost Arena. The Jacks host Oral Roberts (November 4) and North Dakota (November 9), go on the road to Omaha (November 11), then wrap the regular season at home against South Dakota (November 14).
The Summit League tournament is November 19-21 in Vermillion.
“After the first consecutive winning seasons in program history, our team has a lot of momentum and confidence,” Georgalas added. “I think our leadership core will set a great example for the new players on where we want to go next. They are a hungry group and I know they are eager to raise the bar a little higher this year.”
