South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is taking a victory lap after a report by the Libertarian think tank “The Cato Institute” named South Dakota as the third “freest” state in the nation.
In a release sent out by Governor Noem’s office about the report, Governor Noem thanked the Cato institute for recognizing South Dakota and its freedoms.
The Freedom in the 50 States project is an annual report put out by Cato that judges a state’s freedom score based on fiscal, regulatory and personal policy.
The Freedom project performed by Cato has been going since 2000 and since that time South Dakota has never ranked lower than sixth in the nation when it comes to freedom. According to the report New Hampshire is the most free state in the nation.
