The outlook for teaching positions in South Dakota appears much better this year than last year. According to the Associated School Board of South Dakota, there are an estimated 183 open teaching positions across the state. That is down sharply from the same time last year when the Associated School Board estimated at least 515 teaching jobs were open across the state. Despite the numbers trending in the right way, the Associated School Board reminds residents the state is still experiencing a teacher shortage and that shortage is now felt the same across the state. Larger school districts tend to have an easier time filling positions while smaller and rural school districts often struggle.
