Tennessee State to become first HBCU to offer varsity men and women’s hockey

Tennessee State University announced Wednesday the University will begin offering varsity men and women’s hockey. With the announcement Tennessee State becomes the first Historically Black College or University, or HBCU to offer hockey. The university conducted a viability study in 2021 regarding offering men and women’s varsity hockey and is working with the NHL and the NHL Player’s Association to get the program off the ground.
