Timberwolves trade for 8th overall pick and select at 27 in first round of NBA draft

The 2024 NBA draft began last night with round one and will wrap up tonight with the second and final round.

Going first overall was Zaccharie Risacher to the Atlanta Hawks. Risacher is a French national who stands 6’9 195lbs. Who most recently played for JL Bourg in France’s top national division.

Going second overall was another Frenchman Alex Sarr who was selected by the Washington Wizards. He stand’s 7’0 224lbs and plays center, most recently playing professional basketball in Australia.

This is the first time in NBA history the top two picks were prospects who did not play college basketball in the United States.

The Minnesota Timberwolves were active, trading a 2031 unprotected first round pick and a 2030 first round pick swap to the San Antonio Spurs for the draft rights to the 8th overall pick Rob Dillingham. Dillingham stands 6’1 164lbs and plays point guard. He played college basketball at Kentucky.

The Wolves also had the 27th overall pick and selected shooting guard Terrence Shannon Jr. out of Illinois. He stands 6’6 219lbs. And played college basketball at Illinois.

Finally, former South Dakota State Jackrabbits star Baylor Scheierman was selected 30th overall by the Boston Celtics. Scheierman finished his career at Creighton.
