Two people killed in Fort Pierre home explosion

(Gowatertown.net – Watertown, SD) Two people have died in a home explosion south of Fort Pierre.

Stanley County Sheriff Brad Rathbun confirms one of the casualties is an adult.

Authorities say the explosion occurred Wednesday morning at a home off South Dakota Highway 1806.

It sent debris flying in all directions. The only thing left standing on the site is some playground equipment.

In addition to the deceased, three people were taken to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation by the South Dakota Fire Marshal’s Office and DCI.

Rathbun says there’s no early indicators that foul play was involved.

A neighbor reported the explosion a little after 10 o’clock Wednesday morning.
